Both studies received institutional review board approvals from the Oxford Tropical Research Ethics Committee (Ox TREC), as well as the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases Ethics Committee (Hanoi, Vietnam), Hospital for Tropical Diseases Ethics Committee (Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam), Ethics Committee of Nepal Health Research Council (Kathmandu, Nepal), Patan Hospital Ethics Committee (Kathmandu, Nepal), and Ethics Committee of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia (Jakarta, Indonesia).

By collecting 100,000 gut microbiota profiles combined with metadata on diet, health, and lifestyle, “Le French Gut – Le Microbiote Français” aims at (1) better understanding the heterogeneity of healthy gut microbiota and its link with nutrition, lifestyle, and anthropometric characteristics and (2) predicting changes in gut microbiota associated with diseases such as chronic diseases, neurodevelopmental disorders, and neurodegenerative conditions.

A total of 53 patients were included between July 12, 2017, and April 7, 2020, from 14 centers in France: Le Mans (16/52, 31%), Besançon (9/52, 17%), Nantes (6/52, 11%), Bordeaux Bergonié (6/52,11%), Bordeaux Nord (6/52, 11%), Mont de Marson (4/52, 8%), Dijon (1/52, 2%), Grenoble (1/52, 2%), Paris (1/52, 2%), Strasbourg (1/52, 2%), and Vannes (1/52, 2%). One patient withdrew consent before randomization, and 27 patients were randomized to the experimental arm and 25 to the control arm.
