Meanwhile, the economic costs attributable to smoking and exposure to tobacco smoke globally have been estimated to be US $1436 per smoker, which is equivalent to around 1.8% of the world’s gross domestic product [3,6].
In 2015, 68% (22.7 million) of adult smokers said that they wanted to quit smoking. In 2018, 55.1% (21.5 million) of adult smokers said that they had made a quit attempt in the past year.
