The data were cleaned and entered into an electronic data capture tool (EDCT) held on the secure REDCap platform [19,20]. The data were used for both clinical and research purposes. In 2021, screening was centralized and carried out at a single site, which led to a need for direct data entry to the EDCT by the worker.

Patients who received the survey via email were instructed to follow a hyperlink to a web-based REDCap (Research Electronic Data Capture; Vanderbilt University) consent form, where details regarding study participation and confidentiality were provided. After giving e-consent, patients were emailed copies of the study protocol and directed to a subsequent child status questionnaire (CSQ).

For example, 1 usability study of a REDCap-based patient-facing intervention reported that patient participants found REDCap useful and easy to use but showed concerns about wordiness and inconsistent visual design [13]. Researchers have reported frequently on the implementation, use, and interventions using REDCap [10,14-20]. Understanding the preferences and needs of REDCap administrators and researchers using REDCap to capture data could help enhance existing features and EDC processes in general.

REDCap as a Platform for Cutaneous Disease Management in Street Medicine: Descriptive Study
REDCap is a Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act–compliant free web application used to create databases for clinical research and projects [7,8]. However, per our evaluation of the medical literature, there are no reports of medical record keeping or using REDCap among street medicine organizations.

First, design: specification of the database structure and GUI was performed in REDCap. Second, data cleaning and formatting: the already collected study data were prepared to adhere to the newly defined REDCap database structure. Third, migration and compliance: the already collected study data were migrated from Oracle SQL to REDCap, with intensive testing to ensure complete compliance.

The tele-consult was done using a modified secure medical data collecting application called REDCap. Through this software, physicians could assess photos of the lesion and consider the need for a biopsy.
A custom electronic medical record for street medicine use was developed in REDCap. This stored patient data in a confidential manner for team members to review patient charts and coordinate with other providers (Figure 2).

A Method to Deliver Automated and Tailored Intervention Content: 24-month Clinical Trial
Research Electronic Data Capture (REDCap), a browser-based software developed by Vanderbilt University for clinical research data collection and management, is increasingly available to academic institutions across the United States and in other countries, with over 5900 institutional partners in 145 countries [9,10]. REDCap has the capability to send automated text messages.

The REDCap Consortium is a community of REDCap administrative and technical support staff from the academic, nonprofit, and government institutions that have adopted REDCap [14]. The REDCap Consortium represents a professional home for many of the local REDCap research informatics leaders, and it is a forum for enabling teams to share ideas, problems, and solutions related to the innovative use of REDCap [14].

REDCap Delivery of a Web-Based Intervention for Patients With Voice Disorders: Usability Study
However, we found only one study [24] on the use of REDCap for patient-facing intervention delivery and usability.
Given the proliferation of study teams utilizing REDCap and concurrent increasing interest in web-based interventions, we aimed to rigorously evaluate the usability of REDCap for patient-facing intervention delivery in a use case.
