A power analysis based on published data and previous pilot studies [25] was performed (using the “pwr” R package) to estimate the required sample size for the study. The estimated sample size was at least 78 participants in each arm providing 0.8 power to detect an effect size of Cohen d=0.4 with an α of .05.
Two principal sets of analyses were performed on each of the outcome measures.

There is high comorbidity of GAD with other anxiety (51.7%) and mood (63%) disorders [3], especially with depression (r=.62) [4].
Just under half of individuals with GAD suffer for 2 years before correctly being diagnosed [5], and even after diagnosis, waiting times for treatment are up to 18 weeks [6].
