In 2002, Boustani et al [43] at Indiana University conducted a randomized controlled trial to compare the efficacy of a collaborative care management program for persons with dementia with the efficacy of augmented usual care. Using the chronic care model framework [44,45], this program used guideline-based biopsychosocial interventions for patients with dementia and their family caregivers (dyads).
