It posits that individuals require motivation to develop the intention to engage in a behavior, followed by volition to elicit a behavior [29]. It proposes that characteristics of Web-based interventions, including BCTs and Mo Ds, should be adapted to one’s stage of readiness to engage in a behavior. Thus, the framework provides a theoretical foundation to guide the development of self-management programs to increase adherence behaviors [30].
