The volunteers that provided the service were undergraduate or recent-graduate health students who received training from INS-Peru on essential aspects of COVID-19, communication skills in emergencies, and informatics applications for calls and virtual surveys. Patients and volunteers were recruited through social media, online newspapers, and the websites of UNMSM and INS-Peru [10,18].

To the best of our knowledge, this SVVR-based training is the first of its kind for volunteers. This study aims to develop an SVVR-based training program for volunteers helping in preventing illegal drug use by adolescents and evaluate the effectiveness of the training program. Sunshine volunteers helped students with illegal drug use problem in schools. Each city and county had a volunteer group.

The Health TAPESTRY program components include (1) trained volunteers visiting in pairs to collect health information using web-based surveys related to health risks and life goals [36], (2) care coordination by an interprofessional primary care team, (3) the use of technology to share health information between volunteers and primary care providers, and (4) support for system navigation [37]. Trained community volunteers implemented the GENIE tool, in addition to the Health TAPESTRY surveys.

An invitation email containing a link to the questionnaire was distributed among all screened volunteers. No reminder emails were sent to nonresponders. Participants’ responses were anonymized and maintained confidential in accordance with Google’s privacy policy. Descriptive statistics including variables with percentage values were determined.
