Online Visibility and Scientific Relevance of Strabismus Research: Bibliometric Analysis
To date, however, there have been no such analyses within the subspecialty of strabismus, despite the pervasiveness of the disease.
Therefore, we decided to analyze the relationship between the scientific relevance of strabismus research and its contributions to the online sphere, in order to answer the following questions: (1) Are the most popular strabismus papers scientifically relevant? (2) Are the most high-impact strabismus studies shared online enough?

Using Smartphones to Enhance Vision Screening in Rural Areas: Pilot Study
Strabismus is one of the main risk factors for amblyopia, but it is usually not included in screening protocols due to a lack of professional skills in school nurses. When a child is flagged for amblyopia based on a stereopsis test, the vision disorder is often already present and may be difficult to treat. In 2002, the American Academy of Pediatrics strongly urged the development of efficient strabismus screening technology for preschool and school-aged children [7,8].

Strabismus can be roughly defined as misalignment between the binocular axes, or 2 eyes appearing to look in different directions [1]. In a random photo, such gaze directions may rarely be accurately estimated; thus, a photo would not be reliable for determining whether the subject is at risk for strabismus. However, a simple point light source and the corneal luminous reflection it causes can make the problem noticeable.
