We extracted posts in Java Script Object Notation format from the Reddit r/Migraine subforum published from January 1, 2010, to January 1, 2020, using Pushshift, a publicly available Reddit repository, in order to extract data for analysis [15]. The time stamp, title, and text of each post were obtained and combined into a comma-separated values file for further evaluation. Of note, our search did not include any comments responding to individual posts.

For example, studies have obtained data from Twitter via text mining [11,12], and natural language processing has been used to identify posts of interest on Facebook [13]. Other studies have obtained data by searching and extracting information from Facebook [14] or obtained data on health conditions by searching Facebook pages using a generic Facebook account [15]. Recent social media analyses on Instagram describe identifying posts using specific hashtags [16].

Lack of Skin of Color Representation in Dermatology-Related Instagram Posts: Content Analysis
Given the increasing use of social media as a health information resource, we aimed to evaluate and characterize skin type representation in popular dermatology-related posts on Instagram [5].
Some of the most used Instagram hashtags encompassing common dermatologic diagnoses (#acne, #eczema, #psoriasis), procedures (#botox, #chemicalpeel, #mohs), and #dermatology [6] were selected for review.

The examination of forum posts revealed that this phenomenon was occurring. Second, we wanted users’ perceptions without the influence of a researcher asking specific questions. The dataset used in this study comprised 321,999 posts over 24,183 threads that were created from October 2009 to July 2012. Whereas the design of specific features has changed since 2012, the types of features have remained consistent.
