A recent study by Sun et al [4], which evaluated the core temperature of more than 58,000 actively warmed adults undergoing surgery longer than 60 minutes, showed that nearly half the patients developed hypothermia (body temperature During laparoscopic procedures, standard practice is to use dry, unwarmed CO2 to inflate the peritoneum (insufflation). This may contribute to the risk of hypothermia and cause tissue desiccation.
