While social media may be a potentially important method of delivering health messaging and recruitment [5], the types of activities used, and the outcomes of social media outreach efforts, are not well understood.
Social media has become a primary source of information for the general public hoping to “seek and share health-related information” [6].

Inclusive outreach approaches in PH study material, such as simplifying technical language or using multilingual cover letters, have been proven to improve access to information, foster meaningful participation, and reduce study nonresponse [13-15].
PH officials and researchers often struggle to effectively reach and engage all target audiences evenly.

Outreach efforts since the COVID-19 pandemic have also moved toward social media platforms due to the increase in clinician use [4]. A previous digital campaign performed in April-May 2020 showed that 13% of traffic to the GW website came from social media sources (Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter). Evaluating social media engagement can be key to increasing awareness of our course [5].

Project timeline for the stress and coping web-based outreach program.
In March 2020, when most students received the web-based mental health outreach program, a state of emergency was declared in the city in which this study was conducted. This resulted in the closure of all recreational centers, public parks and playgrounds, public libraries, bars, restaurants, movie theaters, concert venues, and places of worship as well as the banning of public gatherings.

Since telepsychiatry had not been offered prior to the pandemic, our outpatient adult behavioral health clinic at an urban safety net hospital conducted an 8-week outreach project to improve patient engagement with video visits through the hospital’s patient portal. This clinic is based at an academic medical center and serves a demographically diverse patient population.

Caregivers, staff, and leaders described successful outreach as requiring multiple outreach contacts (touches) and a variety of formats, for example, in person, fliers, emails, and phone calls (Table 4, subtheme 3b):
They teach us in sales that sometimes it takes quite a few touches to convince somebody to even take a look at what you’re trying to sell them. We’re trying to sell them on the idea of doing this course.

Countries that were impacted initially by the COVID-19 pandemic identified several problems that increased the difficulty of providing psychological interventions during the pandemic, including barriers to participation, limited efficiency of outreach, and limited capacity of frontline workers to provide support due to competing demands on their time and energy [18].

Two independent coders (including the study co-principal investigator, co-PI) will review the Twitter data to identify Twitter users eligible for targeted outreach.
Several aspects of this study will be randomized to reduce selection bias. First, the order in which the cancer trial disease groups will be onboarded in this study will be shuffled randomly using a Fisher-Yates shuffle [76]. Second, the selection of the initial outreach messages will be randomized using a true random number generator [77].
