Enhancing Clinical Competencies Through Peer Role-Play in Oncology Graduate Students: Mixed Methods Study

Enhancing Clinical Competencies Through Peer Role-Play in Oncology Graduate Students: Mixed Methods Study

The rapid advancements in medical knowledge and technology have reshaped oncology practice, increasing the demand for oncology graduate students to develop clinical competencies and patient-centered communication skills [1,2]. In oncology, where patients face emotionally and physically challenging conditions, the ability to communicate with empathy, clarity, and sensitivity is essential.

Efficacy of Preventive Pressurized Intraperitoneal Aerosol Chemotherapy in Patients With Locally Advanced Gastric Cancer: Protocol for a Prospective Controlled Trial

Efficacy of Preventive Pressurized Intraperitoneal Aerosol Chemotherapy in Patients With Locally Advanced Gastric Cancer: Protocol for a Prospective Controlled Trial

Peritoneal metastasis (PM) develops in a considerable proportion of patients, even among those receiving multimodal therapy, and poses a major challenge in oncology. The median overall survival for patients with PM is only 3-6 months, underscoring the urgent need for more effective therapeutic approaches [5]. PM results from tumor cell detachment, survival in the peritoneal cavity via anoikis resistance, adhesion to mesothelial surfaces, and invasion into submesothelial tissues.

Advancing Knowledge of Values-Clarification Processes During Complex Decision-Making Among Older Adults With Advanced Cancer: Protocol for a Pilot Randomized Trial Using Simulated Patient-Clinician Encounters

Advancing Knowledge of Values-Clarification Processes During Complex Decision-Making Among Older Adults With Advanced Cancer: Protocol for a Pilot Randomized Trial Using Simulated Patient-Clinician Encounters

We previously developed the Values and Outcomes to Improve Cancer Experiences (VOICE) tool, a digital values-clarification instrument intended to support SDM in oncology settings. To inform the development of VOICE, we conducted a stakeholder-driven concept mapping study involving 7 older adults with advanced cancer, 2 caregivers, and 12 oncology specialists [30,31]. VOICE uses best-worst scaling (BWS) to elicit and prioritize treatment values (ie, what patients value most when making treatment decisions).

Predicting Postoperative Recurrence Using a Support Vector Machine for Patients With Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma: Machine Learning Modeling Development and Validation Study

Predicting Postoperative Recurrence Using a Support Vector Machine for Patients With Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma: Machine Learning Modeling Development and Validation Study

Numerous factors affect the postoperative recurrence rate in patients with ESCC [3], including postoperative complications, Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) performance status, clinicopathological characteristics, tumor markers, and inflammatory as well as nutritional indicators.

Mapping Characteristics, Applications, and Implementation Challenges of Virtual Communities in Cancer Care: NASSS Framework-Informed Scoping Review

Mapping Characteristics, Applications, and Implementation Challenges of Virtual Communities in Cancer Care: NASSS Framework-Informed Scoping Review

This scoping review is the first to apply the NASSS framework to virtual communities in oncology. It aims to map how existing literature has examined their implementation, sustainability, and alignment with patient and system-level needs. The review highlights the concept of feature alignment, which refers to how well platform functions correspond with user expectations, clinical roles, and infrastructure demands.

A Sexual Health Self-Management Intervention (Psychosexual Educational Partners Program) for Couples With a History of Breast and Gynecological Cancer: Mixed Methods Feasibility Study

A Sexual Health Self-Management Intervention (Psychosexual Educational Partners Program) for Couples With a History of Breast and Gynecological Cancer: Mixed Methods Feasibility Study

A couple-based approach is also consistent with the 2017 American Society of Clinical Oncology sexual health guidelines, which call for health care providers to include the partner if the patient wishes [15]. Access to couple-based psychosexual interventions is often restricted due to the limited number of health care providers equipped to deliver these interventions.

Acceptability of the RecoverEsupport Digital Health Intervention Among Patients Undergoing Breast Cancer Surgery: Qualitative Study

Acceptability of the RecoverEsupport Digital Health Intervention Among Patients Undergoing Breast Cancer Surgery: Qualitative Study

Two authors (ES and RW), one an accredited exercise physiologist with extensive clinical experience working in oncology and digital health, and the other a behavioral researcher specializing in digital health interventions, enacted this methodological process using NVivo 14 (Lumivero) qualitative data analysis software [31].

When Limited Clinical Time With Patients Meets Unlimited Online Information

When Limited Clinical Time With Patients Meets Unlimited Online Information

Before 2012 [14], the average duration of an oncology outpatient encounter ranged from 17 to 23 minutes. While average visit length has remained relatively stable over time [15], the complexity of these visits has increased dramatically [16]. With the development of new treatments, the number of pages in practice guidelines for oncology has almost doubled over the same period [17].

The Feasibility and Acceptability of a Stand-Alone Virtual Reality Headset on Perceived Pain and Anxiety During Bone Marrow Biopsies: Mixed Methods Pilot Study

The Feasibility and Acceptability of a Stand-Alone Virtual Reality Headset on Perceived Pain and Anxiety During Bone Marrow Biopsies: Mixed Methods Pilot Study

The purpose of this pilot study is to evaluate the feasibility and acceptability of using VR adjunctively as a nonpharmacological distraction method for bone marrow biopsies to reduce perceived anxiety and pain in an oncology ward setting. The information gained will help to design future studies needed to ensure the efficacy and reliability of the devices.
