Self-reported participation in disease notification and disease surveillance varied and did not often align with the findings of independent verification of notification by the facility [36].
As shown in Figure 2, a majority of unnotified TB cases (31/33) were discovered in the records of health facilities of respondents who self-reported comfort with notification. TB cases were also found in the records of health facilities where respondents stated that they lacked the capacity to treat TB (8/23).

A total of 176 patient cases were included in this study; 85 cases where anesthesia providers were in the pre-electronic notification group and 99 cases where the anesthesia providers were in the postelectronic notification group. Of the 85 participants providing anesthetic care in the pre-electronic notification group, the mean age of patients undergoing breast surgery was 50.81 (SD 12.65) years, the median weight was 70.8 (IQR 61.50-84.00) kg, and the median ASA score was 2.00 (IQR 2.00-3.00).

Table 1 summarizes the emergency notification mechanisms, whereas Table 2 summarizes gaps in access to disaster-relevant specialists for consultation in New England hospitals and EDs. While the percentage of hospitals and EDs notified by state-level systems or emergency medical services (EMS) and public safety systems was similar across all states, notification by regional- or county-level systems or via media mechanisms was more varied (Table 1).

However, if a user has already engaged with the app to self-monitor their drinking that day, the notification may be an unnecessary reminder and may ultimately annoy the user over time.
The notification appears on the users’ notification center, and tapping the notification opens to the Drink Less landing page. The standard version of Drink Less sends a daily notification that aims to increase self-monitoring by tracking recent alcohol units consumed (ie, the day before).

In a previous qualitative study of people living with HIV in rural Uganda, we examined user attitudes toward an SMS text message notification sent to alert patients with low CD4 counts and to recall them to the clinic to initiate antiretroviral therapy (ART). Consequently, early outbreak recognition, notification, and response will continue to be critical to minimizing the health impacts of these outbreaks for older adult residents in aged care [3,5]. In New South Wales (NSW), Australia, local public health units (PHUs) are responsible for providing advice and support to ACFs for influenza [12] and COVID-19 [13] outbreak management and monitoring under the Australian national guidelines.

Finally, to reduce notification fatigue, the specific messages were drawn at random from a library of personalized notification templates we developed with alternative motivational content (Multimedia Appendix 2). Messaging content for this trial did not address smartphone app survey return.
