Similar studies using nationally representative and longitudinal cohort data also highlight increased prevalence and odds of tobacco and nicotine use among LGBTQ+ adolescents relative to their heterosexual and cisgender peers [17,18]. While the overall prevalence of combustible cigarettes and e-cigarette use is decreasing among LGBTQ+ adolescents, addressing nicotine and tobacco dependence and addiction is still an important health priority [19].

Virtual Reality for the Prevention and Cessation of Nicotine Vaping in Youths: Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Trial

Motivation to quit vaping (1-10 scale; 1=not at all to 10=very much) and intentions to quit vaping (eg, intention to stop in the next 30 days, 6 months, more than 6 months, and no intentions of stopping) are also assessed [24], as well as motivation to use evidence-based vaping cessation resources (“How much do you want to use at least one recommended treatment for stopping vaping [such as nicotine patches, nicotine gum, nicotine lozenges or counseling?”]) [19,25].

Design and Baseline Evaluation of Social Media Vaping Prevention Trial: Randomized Controlled Trial Study

The latest e-cigarettes also contain some of the highest nicotine levels ever seen in tobacco products [4-7]. The use of e-cigarettes has also been associated with worsened lung health and mental well-being [8-12]. In addition to e-cigarettes, other novel nicotine products are growing in popularity. Cornacchione Ross et al [13] found that approximately 17.1% of youth reported using flavored novel oral nicotine products (ONPs) in the past month. Common products included gum, gummies, and lozenges.

Proximal Effects of a Just-in-Time Adaptive Intervention for Smoking Cessation With Wearable Sensors: Microrandomized Trial

Proximal Effects of a Just-in-Time Adaptive Intervention for Smoking Cessation With Wearable Sensors: Microrandomized Trial

Individuals who smoked and were treatment-seeking received the JITAI and brief counseling, which were implemented in the first 2 weeks, along with 6 weeks of nicotine replacement therapy (NRT). Mindfulness-based content delivered via the JITAI was the primary treatment element. Data for the proximal effects of the MRT was acquired via ecological momentary assessment (EMA).
