In this population, Marcon et al [8] questioned if the COVID-19 mortality in centenarians was lower than that in other older adults and whether sex differences exist in mortality among different age classes. Comparisons were made using total mortality (ie, not only confirmed COVID-19 cases) at the peak of infection (March 2020) against March’s total mortality of previous years.

Mortality data are critical for planning, monitoring, and evaluating the implementation and impacts of national health policies and programs [1]. The data can be analyzed to identify changes in disease burden due to specific public health policies or interventions that can inform reprioritization and reallocation of resources. Mortality data are generated through national civil registration and vital statistics (CRVS) systems that provide information on death by sex, age, and cause of death.

Association of a Healthy Lifestyle With All-Cause and Cause-Specific Mortality Among Individuals With Probable Sarcopenia: Population-Based Cohort Study

As shown in Table 2, each lifestyle factor was significantly associated with all-cause mortality. Compared with no current smoking participants, the adjusted HR of mortality was 1.98 (95% CI 1.78‐2.20) for those current smokers. Abstaining from smoking appears to be the most effective in reducing the risk of mortality.

The most common MACCEs components were 1-year mortality (n=3), followed by 30-day mortality (n=2) and in-hospital mortality (n=2). All studies included in this review reported that ML-based models outperformed CRS, including GRACE and TIMI, demonstrating higher accuracy and discriminatory power. We critically appraised the 10 studies included in the review (Multimedia Appendix 2).

Feature selection using recursive feature elimination with k-fold cross-validation and AUC resulted in 60 selected features for both mortality and ICU admission prediction. Figure 2 illustrates how models’ AUCs remain stable, with values equal to or greater than 0.90, up to 60 features. Note that while the number of features is the same, the selected features differ depending on whether the prediction is for mortality or ICU admission.
