Intensive Longitudinal Data Collection Using Microinteraction Ecological Momentary Assessment: Pilot and Preliminary Results

Intensive Longitudinal Data Collection Using Microinteraction Ecological Momentary Assessment: Pilot and Preliminary Results

Microinteractions are actions lasting for 3-4 seconds (eg, checking the time on a watch or turning on a lamp); microinteractions are so short lived that they can be completed without disrupting ongoing activity [23]. µEMA is a type of EMA where all prompts are for single questions with single-tap answers (eg, Nervous right now? with answers Yes, Sort of, or No) [22].

Measuring Criterion Validity of Microinteraction Ecological Momentary Assessment (Micro-EMA): Exploratory Pilot Study With Physical Activity Measurement

Measuring Criterion Validity of Microinteraction Ecological Momentary Assessment (Micro-EMA): Exploratory Pilot Study With Physical Activity Measurement

Prior studies have shown that despite approximately 8 times more interruption than EMA, μEMA had a significantly higher response rate and lower perceived burden because all interactions are limited to microinteractions [11,13]. Thus, there is preliminary evidence that μEMA may enable gathering high-frequency self-report with manageable burden, a complementary approach to EMA.
