Leveraging an Electronic Health Record Patient Portal to Help Patients Formulate Their Health Care Goals: Mixed Methods Evaluation of Pilot Interventions

Leveraging an Electronic Health Record Patient Portal to Help Patients Formulate Their Health Care Goals: Mixed Methods Evaluation of Pilot Interventions

Health priorities include those health outcome goals patients most desire, given health care they are willing and able to receive. When combined with decision-making that aligns patient and clinician priorities, studies indicate that identifying such goals is feasible for both patients and clinicians and effective at increasing priorities-concordant care [7-9]. Developed initially as a facilitator-led process, as efforts to spread PPC increased, an initial challenge emerged.

Measurement of Daily Actions Associated With Mental Health Using the Things You Do Questionnaire–15-Item: Questionnaire Development and Validation Study

Measurement of Daily Actions Associated With Mental Health Using the Things You Do Questionnaire–15-Item: Questionnaire Development and Validation Study

Using survey development methodology [16], 5 different categories of daily actions (ie, factors) were found to have the strongest associations with mental health: healthy thinking (eg, treating oneself with respect), meaningful activities (eg, doing something enjoyable), goals and plans (eg, making plans and following through on them), healthy habits (eg, a consistent sleep-wake routine), and social connections (eg, having meaningful conversations).

Use of an iPad App (Aid for Decision-making in Occupational Choice) for Collaborative Goal Setting in Interprofessional Rehabilitation: Qualitative Descriptive Study

Use of an iPad App (Aid for Decision-making in Occupational Choice) for Collaborative Goal Setting in Interprofessional Rehabilitation: Qualitative Descriptive Study

Health professionals strongly expressed the view that ADOC reinforced their patient-centered approach in clinical practice while setting rehabilitation goals: It was really good just learning more about the client and just asking them different goals. I think usually I focus on what I think they kind of need to do to get home. If we can find out from their viewpoint what their goals are that may help them actually feel some ownership.

Examining the Impact of an mHealth Behavior Change Intervention With a Brief In-Person Component for Cancer Survivors With Overweight or Obesity: Randomized Controlled Trial

Examining the Impact of an mHealth Behavior Change Intervention With a Brief In-Person Component for Cancer Survivors With Overweight or Obesity: Randomized Controlled Trial

An analysis of the personalized goal-setting intervention demonstrated that 69% (37/54) of participants in the intervention group met at least 50% (4/8) of their step count goals. However, the goal success rate was not significantly correlated with any of the study outcome variables.

Unraveling Mobile Health Exercise Interventions for Adults: Scoping Review on the Implementations and Designs of Persuasive Strategies

Unraveling Mobile Health Exercise Interventions for Adults: Scoping Review on the Implementations and Designs of Persuasive Strategies

For the design characteristics of goal setting, it appears that tailored goals [50] are generally effective, whereas generic goals do not seem to increase PA behavior [48,58]. However, tailored easy goals (eg, 10% increase compared with baseline) did not result in more PA compared with a group without goal setting [50] (notably, this study lasted for only 1 week).

Effects of Goal Type and Reinforcement Type on Self-Reported Domain-Specific Walking Among Inactive Adults: 2×2 Factorial Randomized Controlled Trial

Effects of Goal Type and Reinforcement Type on Self-Reported Domain-Specific Walking Among Inactive Adults: 2×2 Factorial Randomized Controlled Trial

We hypothesized that there would be significant main effects of goal type and reinforcement timing consistent with previous studies: those with adaptive goals would report more PA than those with static goals [12,13], and those receiving immediate reinforcement would report more PA than those receiving delayed reinforcement [13].

Mobile Phone Ownership, Health Apps, and Tablet Use in US Adults With a Self-Reported History of Hypertension: Cross-Sectional Study

How do people with a self-reported history of hypertension differ from those without a self-reported history of hypertension with regard to the role that smartphones and tablets play in helping them achieve health-related goals, make medical decisions, or establish patient-provider communication?

An Activity Tracker and Its Accompanying App as a Motivator for Increased Exercise and Better Sleeping Habits for Youths in Need of Social Care: Field Study

An Activity Tracker and Its Accompanying App as a Motivator for Increased Exercise and Better Sleeping Habits for Youths in Need of Social Care: Field Study

An investigation revealed that the 4 participants who continued to use the technology had established their own long-term goals. The participants without long-term goals stopped using the technology during the holiday break. We concluded that social attention and having long-term goals were the 2 most important factors for motivation. Social attention from their surroundings influenced the youths’ attitudes toward technology and toward their health.

Users’ Intrinsic Goals Linked to Alcohol Dependence Risk Level and Engagement With a Health Promotion Website (Hello Sunday Morning): Observational Study

Second, HSM has a goal subscription feature that allows users to specify goals they wish to accomplish. Goals are often alcohol-related, although they do not have to be, and these goals can be selected from a list of popular goals (eg, “Lose weight”), or entered manually if the member has a specific goal in mind.
