The Fire Fighter Cancer Cohort Study: Protocol for a Longitudinal Occupational Cohort Study

The Fire Fighter Cancer Cohort Study: Protocol for a Longitudinal Occupational Cohort Study

Because most published studies on firefighter exposures and effects have been based on predominantly male career firefighters, the cancer risk for other firefighter groups has not been adequately studied. Of the 1,041,200 estimated firefighters in the United States, 676,900 (65.01%) are volunteers [14], but information on the specific cancer risk of US volunteer firefighters is limited.

Feasibility, Acceptability, and Preliminary Efficacy of an App-Based Meditation Intervention to Decrease Firefighter Psychological Distress and Burnout: A One-Group Pilot Study

Our selection of content for the app was guided by Lazarus and Folkman’s theory of stress and coping [22], which has been used previously to study health in firefighters [23], as well as research indicating the importance of mindfulness and perceived social connection for firefighter health [7,14,16,17,21].
