The 2 main mechanisms that enable mindless interventions to regulate stress and anxiety are entrainment (eg, offset heart rate biofeedback [27,28]) and emotion regulation (eg, guided breathing [26,29-31] and affective touch [32]). Entrainment-based methods can influence the user’s physiological state by mitigating the autonomic nervous system (ANS), which is vital in regulating how the body reacts to external and internal stimuli [33].
