Comparison of Deep Learning Approaches Using Chest Radiographs for Predicting Clinical Deterioration: Retrospective Observational Study

Comparison of Deep Learning Approaches Using Chest Radiographs for Predicting Clinical Deterioration: Retrospective Observational Study

Clinical deterioration is common in hospitalized patients and can lead to adverse outcomes, including increased morbidity and mortality if not identified and managed properly [1]. The early detection of patient deterioration and timely intervention can improve patient outcomes [2].

The Safety of Digital Mental Health Interventions: Findings and Recommendations From a Qualitative Study Exploring Users’ Experiences, Concerns, and Suggestions

The Safety of Digital Mental Health Interventions: Findings and Recommendations From a Qualitative Study Exploring Users’ Experiences, Concerns, and Suggestions

DMHI’s users face similar risks to those in face-to-face therapy, such as deterioration in symptoms, novel symptoms (experiencing new mental health symptoms during treatment), and nonresponse [1]. Deterioration of symptoms, observed in approximately 3%-10% of psychotherapy cases [7,8], signifies a phenomenon where patients’ conditions worsen during therapy. Deterioration is the most common side effect of mental health therapies (face to face and digital) [1].

Understanding Patients’ Preferences for a Digital Intervention to Prevent Posttreatment Deterioration for Bulimia-Spectrum Eating Disorders: User-Centered Design Study

Understanding Patients’ Preferences for a Digital Intervention to Prevent Posttreatment Deterioration for Bulimia-Spectrum Eating Disorders: User-Centered Design Study

Relapse and deterioration are strongly associated with worsened quality of life [6,7] and could lead to patients being readmitted to treatment, adding burden and cost to both patients and health care systems [8]. Despite high rates of deterioration, there are currently no deterioration prevention programs available for patients with BN-EDs receiving outpatient CBT-E to address this concern. One factor that may be particularly relevant to posttreatment deterioration is patients’ posttreatment skill use.

Effect of Digital Early Warning Scores on Hospital Vital Sign Observation Protocol Adherence: Stepped-Wedge Evaluation

Effect of Digital Early Warning Scores on Hospital Vital Sign Observation Protocol Adherence: Stepped-Wedge Evaluation

Avoidable mortality from unrecognized clinical deterioration is an internationally recognized problem [1]. Such deterioration often corresponds with deviations in patient vital signs early warning score (EWS) algorithms have been introduced to improve the recognition of abnormal vital signs [2]. They assign a score to each vital sign value according to the degree of abnormality. The total score is a measure of patient risk.

Health Care System Overstretch and In-Hospital Mortality of Intubated Patients With COVID-19 in Greece From September 2020 to April 2022: Updated Retrospective Cohort Study

Health Care System Overstretch and In-Hospital Mortality of Intubated Patients With COVID-19 in Greece From September 2020 to April 2022: Updated Retrospective Cohort Study

On the other hand, we found no statistically significant association between mortality and the number of COVID-19 vaccine doses received; this suggests that despite vaccination being enormously effective in preventing severe COVID-19 and death [7], if a patient has already been intubated as a result of severe COVID-19, it is quality of care and not vaccination that can prevent further deterioration and death.

Identification of Predictors for Clinical Deterioration in Patients With COVID-19 via Electronic Nursing Records: Retrospective Observational Study

Identification of Predictors for Clinical Deterioration in Patients With COVID-19 via Electronic Nursing Records: Retrospective Observational Study

In this study, the clinical outcome is the patient’s clinical deterioration. We defined clinical deterioration as an event in which patients with COVID-19 were transferred to the ICU from general wards. In total, 460 patients with COVID-19 were admitted to 2 general wards for infectious disease treatment at the hospital between December 2019 and June 2022. Patients transferred from or to other general wards or ICUs other than the DICU were excluded.
