Assessing the Utilization of Electronic Consultations in Genetics: Seven-Year Retrospective Study

Assessing the Utilization of Electronic Consultations in Genetics: Seven-Year Retrospective Study

To address these challenges, health care systems have explored innovative solutions, such as electronic consultations (e-Consults), to facilitate prompt access to specialist expertise [6]. e-Consults have emerged as a promising approach to bridge the gap between the limited number of genetic specialists and the growing demand for their service.

Prevalence of Antibiotic Prescribing for Acute Respiratory Tract Infection in Telehealth Versus Face-to-Face Consultations: Cross-Sectional Analysis of General Practice Registrars’ Clinical Practice

Prevalence of Antibiotic Prescribing for Acute Respiratory Tract Infection in Telehealth Versus Face-to-Face Consultations: Cross-Sectional Analysis of General Practice Registrars’ Clinical Practice

In another systematic review and meta-analysis of 13 studies, antibiotic prescribing for respiratory, urinary, or skin and soft tissue infections in telehealth compared with F2 F consultations varied depending on infection type [23]. When the 10 observational studies were pooled, there was significantly less prescribing for sinusitis in telehealth consultations and significantly more prescribing for otitis media in telehealth consultations.

Psychological Factors That Contribute to the Use of Video Consultations in Health Care: Systematic Review

Psychological Factors That Contribute to the Use of Video Consultations in Health Care: Systematic Review

Building on this work, further research has identified that avoidance or hesitancy with telehealth, specifically the use of video consultations (VCs), results from HCPs’ worries, assumptions, or preconceived frames of reference (eg, assuming the patient will not have access to technology) as opposed to evidence-based on empirical research [8,9]. These authors have proposed pragmatic strategies to redress adverse cognitive and emotional reactions to VC, thereby increasing VC use.

Association of a Novel Electronic Form for Preoperative Cardiac Risk Assessment With Reduction in Cardiac Consultations and Testing: Retrospective Cohort Study

Association of a Novel Electronic Form for Preoperative Cardiac Risk Assessment With Reduction in Cardiac Consultations and Testing: Retrospective Cohort Study

Preoperative workup may include a referral to a cardiologist, and appropriate indications for such consultations have been described [3,5]. Inappropriate cardiac testing or cardiology referrals are considered low-value care because they rarely change perioperative management, cause surgical delays, and increase costs [5-12]. Low-value preoperative cardiac stress testing is estimated to cost US $102 to US $238 million [9].

Training Service Users in the Use of Telehealth: Scoping Review

Training Service Users in the Use of Telehealth: Scoping Review

The use of telehealth, defined as live audio and video consultations between service users and health care professionals, has increased exponentially since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic [1]. The presence of physical distancing restrictions and stay-at-home orders necessitated this form of health care delivery [2]. The use of telehealth has prevailed beyond the pandemic, due to its benefits to service users and clinicians alike.

Revolutionizing Care: Unleashing the Potential of Digital Health Technology in Physiotherapy Management for People With Cystic Fibrosis

Revolutionizing Care: Unleashing the Potential of Digital Health Technology in Physiotherapy Management for People With Cystic Fibrosis

While online or electronic consultations may be more convenient for some people with CF and reduce the risk of cross infection, not all people with CF will benefit from reducing the frequency of in-person consultations. Physiotherapists, originally involved in CF care for chest clearance in 1946, now participate in a global clinical and research network, developing national and international clinical guidance and standards of care [3,10-12].

Implementation of Inpatient Electronic Consultations During the COVID-19 Crisis and Its Sustainability Beyond the Pandemic: Quality Improvement Study

Implementation of Inpatient Electronic Consultations During the COVID-19 Crisis and Its Sustainability Beyond the Pandemic: Quality Improvement Study

Electronic consultations (e-consults) are asynchronous, non–face-to-face, provider-to-provider exchanges that have been shown to improve patient access to specialty care for appropriate referral problems that do not require an in-person evaluation of the patient by the specialist [1-3]. The rapid rise in COVID-19 cases induced a demand for the adoption of e-consult services and triggered an increase in the use of e-consults [4].

Use of Video Consultations for Patients With Hematological Diseases From a Patient Perspective: Qualitative Study

Use of Video Consultations for Patients With Hematological Diseases From a Patient Perspective: Qualitative Study

The overall aim was to explore how patients experience the use of video consultations. This will be uncovered through the following research questions: How do patients experience the use of video consultations in place of a face-to-face consultation? How do they experience the lack of physical contact? What does it mean to the patient to save the travel time? How are the roles between patients and health care professionals experienced when using video consultation?
