Although it is common for bystander intervention messaging (here, bystander intervention is defined as the ability to identify situations in which a third party may assist someone in a risky and act to intervene [3]) to use bystander models as a theoretical framework [4,5], the social norms approach is also used to address sexual violence interventions [6].

Following these models, we tested the following hypothesis in a field trial: interpersonal communication will serve as a mediator in the relationship between the intervention and bystander self-efficacy to intervene (H1).
Interpersonal communication, of course, is only 1 (though important) among many pathways that could affect self-efficacy.

mHealth for Anemia Reduction: Protocol for an Entertainment Education–Based Dual Intervention
As described below, the control arm for the m RANI study is another intervention that focuses on reducing violence against women by promoting bystander intervention, which also uses self-efficacy as its outcome.
Our overall approach is anchored in the entertainment education (EE) literature [32,33].

Evolution of Bystander Intention to Perform Resuscitation Since Last Training: Web-Based Survey
Bystander-initiated cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is one of the most important factors explaining these differences and has been shown to increase the survival rate by three times [1-3]. Immediate CPR initiation after collapse is particularly important, as there is a 10% decrease in survival rate for every minute spent without CPR [4].
