Assessing Facilitator Fidelity to Principles of Public Deliberation: Tutorial

Assessing Facilitator Fidelity to Principles of Public Deliberation: Tutorial

Public deliberation is particularly suited for controversial policy decisions in health care and bioethics [6]. However, with the growing use of public deliberations, there is a need to assess their quality [1,4,7]. Researchers recommend a variety of approaches to evaluating the quality of deliberative events. Some researchers evaluate quality by focusing on deliberants’ experiences and the extent to which these experiences are consistent with deliberative goals.

An Ethics Action Plan for Rare Disease Care: Participatory Action Research Approach

An Ethics Action Plan for Rare Disease Care: Participatory Action Research Approach

Therefore, participatory action research in bioethics fosters democratic inquiry, social change, and stakeholder empowerment [22,26]. To the best of our knowledge, few participatory action research projects have been conducted on rare diseases and bioethics. One project, conducted in the United Kingdom, involved the co-design of a national program for genomic screening for rare diseases in newborns with health care professionals, researchers, ethicists, patient groups, and members of the public [27].

Ethical Implications of Artificial Intelligence in Population Health and the Public’s Role in Its Governance: Perspectives From a Citizen and Expert Panel

Although well-known and discussed in certain circles [22], they have not yet been fully recognized by empirical bioethics studies of AI. Some participants agreed that AI would transform or replace HCPs. This is in line with the literature, which shows that the public is more likely to have pessimistic attitudes toward AI in health compared with HCPs [20,21].

Proactive and Ongoing Analysis and Management of Ethical Concerns in the Development, Evaluation, and Implementation of Smart Homes for Older Adults With Frailty

Proactive and Ongoing Analysis and Management of Ethical Concerns in the Development, Evaluation, and Implementation of Smart Homes for Older Adults With Frailty

We bring together concepts from often-siloed fields of bioethics, such as principlism and ethics of care, and technology ethics to highlight ethical challenges to be deliberated with respect to smart home technology. Principlism by Beauchamp and Childress [26] refers to a dominant framework in bioethics that outlines 4 key principles—respect for autonomy, beneficence, nonmaleficence, and justice.

Electronic Tracking Devices for People With Dementia: Content Analysis of Company Websites

Electronic Tracking Devices for People With Dementia: Content Analysis of Company Websites

Ethically related content was identified based on themes and concepts present in a previously completed review of argument-based ethics literature [18] and those stemming from the relational care ethics approach as operationalized in the dignity-enhancing care model of bioethics [37,38,59]. Although brief paraphrasing of key quotes was included, initial reports remained as close to the data as possible. The third stage entails a movement from initial report to conceptual scheme (Multimedia Appendix 2).
