Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2 DM) has become a global public health issue that significantly affects 90% of the 537 million patients with T2 DM worldwide [1]. T2 DM and its complications significantly impact patients and the society by increasing health care costs and reducing life expectancy and quality [2]. Glycated hemoglobin (Hb A1c) is the gold standard for measuring average blood glucose levels over 3 months and predicting the relative risk of diabetes complications [3,4].

It has been proposed that improving health literacy in T2 DM management requires innovative solutions, including the use of simplified and interactive educational tools [12,13]. This study evaluated an artificial intelligence (AI)–driven conversational agent chatbot to enhance health literacy on T2 DM by providing interactive, accessible, and personalized guidance grounded in evidence-based medical documents.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2 DM) has become a serious public health problem worldwide. It is a progressive disease that can impair health-related quality of life [1,2] while also imposing substantial economic burdens on individuals, health systems, and society [3]. By 2040, there will be 642 million patients with diabetes worldwide, with the incidence of T2 DM on the rise across all regions [4]. T2 DM accounts for >90% of the diagnosis in all types of diabetes, and it can cause various complications [5].

In recent years, the number of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2 DM) has been on the rise due to unhealthy diets, sedentary lifestyles, and an aging population [1]. The epidemic is only expected to worsen, with the number of adults with diabetes predicted to reach 415 million by 2040, costing the health care system US $802 billion a year [2]. Improving diabetes treatment is essential.
