Performance of a Wearable Ring in Controlled Hypoxia: A Prospective Observational Study
The wellness metrics that the test ring provides include heart rate variability, average Sp O2, respiration rate, sleep duration and stages, and skin temperature during sleep, in addition to skin activity levels (steps), distance traveled, active minutes, and calories burned when awake, and also enables tracking of mood and menstrual cycle.
A pulse oximeter provides Sp O2, a noninvasive estimate of arterial blood oxygen saturation (Sa O2).

The target Sp O2 at each run was chosen to be evenly balanced over the 70%-100% Sp O2 range.
On the initial step of the run, two blood samples of 1-2 m L were first collected 30 seconds apart from the participant at the same oxygen saturation level as the room air. Then, approximately 10 seconds later, the inspired oxygen was abruptly changed to reduce oxygen saturation to the next Sp O2 target level.

In-Home Cardiovascular Monitoring System for Heart Failure: Comparative Study
When captured at 2 wavelengths (eg, red and infrared), Sp O2 can be estimated [30]. The ratio between the waveform amplitudes from each wavelength is used to calculate an R-value, which can then be converted to Sp O2 through a device-specific calibration curve (R-curve) [30,31]. Typically, Sp O2 is measured on the finger or the earlobe, where intersubject variability in the local tissue is low, allowing for a universal R-curve to be used across the entire population.
