We used linear mixed effects models (LMMs) implemented through LME4 [47] and Tukey contrasts to compare between time points (using the “multcomp” package [48]) in the statistical computing software R [computer software] (version 3.5.2. Vienna, Austria: R Foundation for Statistical Computing). LMMs are capable of handling missing data and are considered superior to other ITT approaches such as the last observation carried forward [49].
