SARS-Co V-2 vaccination began in Lebanon on February 14, 2021 [7]. The Pfizer-Bio NTech, Sputnik V, Oxford-Astra Zeneca, and Sinopharm vaccines had been approved for use in Lebanon at the time [8]. Despite efforts from the Lebanese government and international aid to secure adequate supply of SARS-Co V-2 vaccines of multiple formulations, as of November 9, 2021, only 1,583,289 people had been fully vaccinated, representing approximately 23% of the total population [1,9-11].

Lebanon has a history of political instability that has negatively impacted the development of the country. There are approximately 1.5 million Syrian refugees in Lebanon, of which 74% are lacking legal status [4]. The country’s resources are extremely stretched, and the growing number of refugees puts extra pressure on the labor market and infrastructure.

SARS-CoV-2 Surveillance in the Middle East and North Africa: Longitudinal Trend Analysis
Food insecurity poses a significant public health concern in countries with high refugee per capita concentration, such as Lebanon and Jordan [18-20]. Refugee populations are particularly vulnerable to COVID-19 as they are often concentrated in densely populated camps with poor hygiene measures and fragmented access to health care [12].

As of January 2017, over one million Syrian refugees were registered with UNHCR in Lebanon [1]. With an estimated 183 refugees per 1000 inhabitants at the end of 2015, Lebanon hosts the highest ratio of refugees-to-host population worldwide [2]. The humanitarian response in Lebanon is coordinated through an interagency mechanism established by UNHCR and the Lebanese government, integrating refugee assistance into existing clinics.
