Effect of a Short, Animated Storytelling Video on Transphobia Among US Parents: Randomized Controlled Trial

Effect of a Short, Animated Storytelling Video on Transphobia Among US Parents: Randomized Controlled Trial

A record number of anti-LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer) bills (more than 400) were introduced across US state legislatures in 2023 [14]. These environmental factors contribute to an alarmingly high rate of suicidality among TGD youth: the 2023 US National Survey on the Mental Health of LGBTQ+ Young People reported that 48% of transgender girls, 56% of transgender boys, and 48% of nonbinary youth had seriously considered attempting suicide in the past year [6].

Depression and Anxiety Symptoms Among Cisgender Gay and Bisexual Men During the Onset of the COVID-19 Pandemic: Time Series Analysis of a US National Cohort Study

Other studies have found that lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) people may be particularly vulnerable to developing symptoms of depression and anxiety relative to non-LGBTQ populations [6]. For instance, a study of cannabis users conducted during the pandemic found that the LGBTQ cannabis users were more likely to report symptoms of depression and anxiety [7].

The chatbots and internet-based assistants identified served various purposes: (1) to identify LGBTQ individuals at risk of suicide or contracting HIV or other sexually transmitted infections, (2) to provide resources to LGBTQ youth from underserved areas, (3) to facilitate HIV status disclosure to sex partners, and (4) to develop training role-play personas encompassing the diverse experiences and intersecting identities of LGBTQ youth and educate counselors.

Evaluating the Feasibility and Acceptability of a Digital Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis Navigation and Activation Intervention for Racially and Ethnically Diverse Sexual and Gender Minority Youth (PrEPresent): Protocol for a Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial

In a 2021 lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) sampling study of the United States, it was estimated that about 11% of LGBTQ adults identify as nonbinary. This percentage was approximated to just over 1 million nonbinary people (aged 18-60 years) living in the United States at the time of the report [6]. Emerging studies are examining the HIV incidence among transgender and nonbinary people. In a 2019 cohort study of 1608 transgender women, 42% of participants tested positive for HIV.

Teaching LGBTQ+ Health, a Web-Based Faculty Development Course: Program Evaluation Study Using the RE-AIM Framework

Teaching LGBTQ+ Health, a Web-Based Faculty Development Course: Program Evaluation Study Using the RE-AIM Framework

Inadequate physician training in LGBTQ+ health is a remnant of the pathologization of queerness in the 1980s and 1990s during the AIDS crisis [4]. Homophobia and moralistic dialogue in society during that time kept many LGBTQ+ patients from disclosing their sexual orientation to their providers, resulting in substantial unmet care needs [4].

In 2015, the American College of Physicians advocated for the creation of policies that would advance health equity among the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning (LGBTQ) community—including the need for ongoing research on best practices for equitable health care [24].

Treating Depression in Adolescents and Young Adults Using Remote Intensive Outpatient Programs: Quality Improvement Assessment

Treating Depression in Adolescents and Young Adults Using Remote Intensive Outpatient Programs: Quality Improvement Assessment

This is important given that marginalized populations, including those who do not identify in the gender binary and those who select as members of LGBTQ+ communities, are at higher risk of mental health disorders due to experiences of marginalization [27,28] and encounter even greater barriers to appropriate mental health services than nonmarginalized groups [28-30].
