Additionally, Xu et al. used deep learning to identify COVID-19 from computed tomography scans from multiple hospitals in China, and found that models built on data from hospitals in 1 region did not generalize well to hospitals in other regions. However, they were able to achieve considerable performance improvements when they used a federated learning approach [16].
