Facilitators of and Barriers to Resilience Among Black Children and Youth in Canada and the United States: Protocol for a Scoping Review

Facilitators of and Barriers to Resilience Among Black Children and Youth in Canada and the United States: Protocol for a Scoping Review

Although there is a growing body of research focused on the experiences of Black children and youth in Canada and the United States [10,16-18], targeted studies on resilience remain relatively sparse. In the Canadian context, especially, there is a notable lack of synthesized evidence on the factors that support or hinder resilience.

Principles and Practices of Community Engagement in AI for Population Health: Formative Qualitative Study of the AI for Diabetes Prediction and Prevention Project

Principles and Practices of Community Engagement in AI for Population Health: Formative Qualitative Study of the AI for Diabetes Prediction and Prevention Project

In Canada, diabetes affects approximately 11.9 million people and significantly impacts health care expenditure [11]. Structural barriers, such as socioeconomic disparities, limited access to health care and healthy foods, and restrictions posed by built environments, continue to impede population-wide diabetes prevention efforts [12,13].

Estimating Chronic Hepatitis B Prevalence and Undiagnosed Proportion in Canada, 2007-2021: Mathematical Framework Development

Estimating Chronic Hepatitis B Prevalence and Undiagnosed Proportion in Canada, 2007-2021: Mathematical Framework Development

In 2016, Canada endorsed the Global Strategy to eliminate hepatitis as a public health threat by 2030 [2]. It has already made progress toward this goal; a seroprevalence study published in 2013 estimated the national prevalence of CHB to be 0.4%, well below the global average [3]. This is in large part thanks to Canada’s robust vaccination program. In 2021, vaccine coverage was 89% for those aged 14 years or older [4].

Promoting Dairy Consumption Among Families: Development and User Experience Study of a Web-Based Nutrition Intervention

Promoting Dairy Consumption Among Families: Development and User Experience Study of a Web-Based Nutrition Intervention

This questionnaire was shared on Facebook (Meta Platforms) groups targeting parents living in Quebec, Canada. The questionnaire was designed by the UX design team in collaboration with the nutritionists from the research team. The questions were not validated before being sent to the target population. The survey was voluntary and open to all site visitors, but only participants with at least one child between 8 and 16 years old were retained for analysis. No incentives were offered.

Analyzing Public Google Search Interest in Measles Within Canada: Identifying Key Moments for Targeted Risk Communication

Analyzing Public Google Search Interest in Measles Within Canada: Identifying Key Moments for Targeted Risk Communication

Canada saw a sharp rise in cases—from 12 in 2023 to 2429 by May 2025—that was mostly linked to international travel [2]. Despite a highly effective vaccine, immunization rates remain below the 95% herd immunity threshold, with regional disparities [1,3]. Infodemiology helps with tracking public health information trends, identifying misinformation, and guiding risk communication [4,5].

Exploring the Barriers and Facilitators to Implementing a Smartphone App for Physicians to Improve the Management of Acute Myocardial Infarctions: Multicenter, Mixed Methods, Observational Study

Exploring the Barriers and Facilitators to Implementing a Smartphone App for Physicians to Improve the Management of Acute Myocardial Infarctions: Multicenter, Mixed Methods, Observational Study

The current process for STEMI activation for many centers in Canada relies on a variety of technologies that are poorly integrated or inefficient. For example, STEMI activation at the Hamilton General Hospital, a high-volume quaternary cardiac care hospital in Ontario, Canada, used fax for ECG transmission, which is secure but slow, inconvenient, and sometimes unavailable.

Sleep, Health Care–Seeking Behaviors, and Perceptions Associated With the Use of Sleep Wearables in Canada: Results From a Nationally Representative Survey

Sleep, Health Care–Seeking Behaviors, and Perceptions Associated With the Use of Sleep Wearables in Canada: Results From a Nationally Representative Survey

Results from a national survey investigating the self-tracking of physical activity in Canada showed that 1 in 4 Canadians reported using a wearable or smart medical device, and over half of those engaged in self-tracking regularly [11]. Groups who were identified as more likely to engage in self-tracking included young and middle-aged adults (aged 18‐34 years), and those who were healthy, employed, had a university education, and had an annual family income of over CAD $80,000 (US $63,600).

Identifying and Taking Action on the Protective and Risk Factors of Black Maternal Mental Health: Protocol for Community-Based Participatory Study

Identifying and Taking Action on the Protective and Risk Factors of Black Maternal Mental Health: Protocol for Community-Based Participatory Study

Few studies have explored MMH disorders among Black populations in Canada, but disparities in diagnosis, delivery of care, and their relationship to health outcomes for Black women have been well documented in the United States [11,12].

Low Earth Orbit Communication Satellites: A Positively Disruptive Technology That Could Change the Delivery of Health Care in Rural and Northern Canada

Low Earth Orbit Communication Satellites: A Positively Disruptive Technology That Could Change the Delivery of Health Care in Rural and Northern Canada

Unfortunately, in Canada, the emergency department can be 2000 km away, and when the transported patient arrives, very little acute or longitudinal medical data are available. Canada is a progressive nation that endeavors to provide comprehensive, universal, and portable health care to all its citizens. This is a challenge for a country with a population of 40 million living within 10 million km2 and where 18% live in rural or highly remote locations [1].
