A recent meta-analysis based on 122,356 medical students from 43 countries showed that the prevalence rate for depressive symptoms was 27.2% (range of individual studies: 1.4%-73.5%) [12]. This prevalence rate was higher than that for population-representative peers of a similar age [12], suggesting that medical students are a high-risk population.
