User Engagement and Usability of Suicide Prevention Apps: Systematic Search in App Stores and Content Analysis

In the screening stage, 1353 apps were excluded as they were either duplicates, not written in the English language, or irrelevant (eg, games, wallpapers, and quotes). Of the 240 apps that were downloaded and tested for eligibility, 174 (72.5%) were excluded as they were no longer available or accessible for download, unrelated to suicide, or required payment for download. The remaining 66 apps were included in the quality assessment and usability evaluation (Figure 1).
