In 2012, a patient-controlled PEPA (personal EHR) was launched in the region of Rhine-Neckar in the southwest of Germany, within the INFOPAT (INFOrmation Technology for PATient-oriented Healthcare in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region) project [14]. The PEPA is “owned” by the patient so that he or she gains control over all disease-associated and medication-related data shared in the PEPA [15,16].
