Appalachia, a region with a largely rural population, spreads over 420 counties in 13 states. Rural Appalachia is medically underserved to the extent that there is an average of only 4 dentists per 100,000 individuals, compared to the United States’ average of nearly 61 dentists per 100,000 [11]. West Virginia (WV) is the only state of the 13 states entirely in Rural Appalachia that is underserved and hit hard economically.

The data warehouse provides the drill-down, drill-up and slice and dice capability, whereas the hub design connects both financial and clinical data to provide a full picture.
The developed interactive dashboards are securely shared with users within a department or a team, as needed, through the use of Tableau Server [46].

As a foundation for all future studies, the ACTSI Maier Institute Data Mart was built using the Clinical Data Warehouse (CDW), which will serve as a source of consolidated information across the care continuum for our geriatric population. Using data from this data mart, a pilot exploratory study was conducted.
