A similar observation can be made for hepatitis B. In French Guiana, the prevalence of chronic HBV infection is estimated at nearly 1.5%, compared with 0.3% in continental France. Once again, Haitians are particularly affected— the presence of the hepatitis B surface antigen (a marker of hepatitis B infection) concerns 2.5% of Haitian women registered in the French Guiana pregnancy registry [19].
