Optimal Dosing and Timing of High-Dose Corticosteroid Therapy in Hospitalized Patients With COVID-19: Study Protocol for a Retrospective Observational Multicenter Study (SELECT)

Among patients with COVID-19, the Randomized Evaluation of Covid-19 Therapy (ie, RECOVERY) study showed that low-dose dexamethasone reduces mortality in patients requiring supplemental oxygen therapy or invasive mechanical ventilation but not in patients without respiratory support [10]. Current COVID-19 guidelines recommend a dose of 6 mg of dexamethasone per day for 10 days when oxygen therapy is required, regardless of the level of inflammation or severity of the disease [2].
