Additional details of the protocol can be found in studies by Goff et al and Ray and Chunara [22,23]. We used the Tweepy application program interface (API) [24] to collect available tweets from participants, limited by the Twitter API, which only allows 3200 most recent tweets per user. The Twitter API only allows for collection of profiles that are shared publicly. These timelines were collected in March 2018. In addition, we collected data from a random set of Twitter users for comparison.
