Regarding Sex Pro, participants felt the numeric score and the color coding (red for low score indicating low protection from HIV, yellow or orange for intermediate score indicating moderate protection, and green for a high score indicating high protection) were important to provide a more robust understanding of what their score meant. One participant in Chicago described it as follows:
The higher the number the better, even 12 versus 9 just sounds and feels better.

Although we applied this aforementioned 20 hours per day criterion, to maximize data collection, note that the app was programmed to reward participants with a green star only if they collected at least 22 hours of data per day.
