Glue ear (otitis media with effusion) is the most common cause of childhood hearing loss, but usually resolves, making it highly appropriate for rehabilitation with a nonimplanted BCD, and potentially avoiding the need for surgery (with preliminary evidence to support use for this purpose from the studies by Holland Brown [24,25,49]).

If the participant’s final decision is to unenroll, the study team will mark the date and the reason for the participant dropping out.
Researchers review critical data at least biweekly to ensure data quality. When student or staff clinicians are involved in the collection of sensitive data, licensed supervisors will review student or staff data. The biostatistics team runs regular data quality checks to ensure the completeness and correctness of all collected data.
