Participant characteristics between groups were compared using independent sample t, chi-square, and Mann-Whitney U tests. Fixed-effects models were used because of the intensive repeated-measures design [61]. The advantage of this method is that it can handle nested observations, unbalanced numbers of observations, and missing values [62].
