PRISM’s efficacy has been shown via improved resilience, health-related quality of life, and mental health outcomes for adolescents and young adults with serious illnesses, including cancer, type I diabetes, and cystic fibrosis [18-21]. Although CBT and other evidence-based psychological strategies have strong evidence supporting their use in the treatment of pediatric chronic pain [22], the use of a resilience framework and resilience coaching has not been formally examined among youth with CMP.

Breath-Focused Mindfulness and Compassion Training in Parent-Child Dyads: Pilot Intervention Study
Another study demonstrated that Cognitively-Based Compassion Training in parents significantly reduced stress cortisol levels in their infants and young children [31]. Furthermore, many school-based mindfulness interventions have been introduced to enhance well-being in children, and such programs have grown rapidly since the pandemic [30,34,35].

Adolescent and young adult tobacco and nicotine use continues to be a major public health concern. The 2024 National Youth Tobacco Survey found that 8.1% of all middle and high school youths surveyed reported current use of tobacco products, with 2.8% of students reporting combustible cigarette use, while 5.9% of middle school students and 7.8% of high school students reported current e-cigarette use [1].
