Full details on our misinformation monitoring and identification process are available from Gorman and Scales [22] and Scales et al [30]. In short, we monitored web-based Facebook profiles of news organizations marketing to 3 geographic regions: Newark, New Jersey; Chicago, Illinois; and central Texas. Regions were chosen for demographic, geographic, and urban or rural diversity.
