Identifying and Taking Action on the Protective and Risk Factors of Black Maternal Mental Health: Protocol for Community-Based Participatory Study

In this phase, an e-survey (n=300) will be used to collect data on the participants’ demographic (age, racial and ethnic identities, immigration status, educational status, SES, gender identity, housing, neighborhood, employment, relationship status, and household income along with obstetric information including gestational age at birth (full or preterm), admission to neonatal intensive care unit, and infant health issues or concerns.

Relationship of Hair Cortisol Concentration With Perceived and Somatic Stress Indices: Cross-Sectional Pilot Study

Hair samples were collected from a subset of participants (n=24), limited by willingness to participate and ability to contribute sufficient hair volume in this predominantly male cohort. Those who provided hair samples were given a questionnaire that solicited the frequency of hair washing; use of scalp treatments; and use of hair dyes, bleaching products, permanent straighteners, or curling products in the previous 3 months.

A Culturally Tailored Physical Activity Intervention for Hispanic Adults Living With Type 2 Diabetes: Pre-Post Pilot Feasibility Study

The majority (n=19, 90%) of participants were female, and most (n=16, 76%) were married. All participants except one identified Mexico as their country of origin. Most participants had an income level below US $35,000, with 9 participants reporting an income level less than US $15,000. Over half the participants had completed high school or had less than a high school education. Participants had lived in the United States from 3 months to 35 years (mean 14.9, SD 11.25 years).

While there was a decrease in opioid-related deaths from 2022 to 2023, the number of deaths in 2023 (n=81,083) [24] was significantly higher than in 2018 (n=46,802) [25]. The provisional Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) data revealed that the decrease in opioid-related deaths was uneven across demographic groups, with Black individuals experiencing only a 6% reduction, Hispanic individuals having a 3% decrease, and American Indian or Alaska Native populations seeing a 2% increase.

Two subgroups of participants allocated to receive the intervention were purposively sampled to gain a richer understanding of the contexts and mechanisms that might contribute to the longitudinal use and acceptability of the Su MMi T-D system: group 1 (n=23), who were interviewed 4 weeks after randomization and again following completion of follow-up measures, and group 2 (n=20), who were only interviewed following completion of follow-up measures, selected to explore emerging themes from preliminary analysis
